IPL 2024 will start from March 22. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed this to news agency PTI on Tuesday. Despite general elections, the entire competition takes place in India only. The elections are expected to be held in April and May and this is the main reason why the schedule of the 17th edition of the IPL has not been revealed yet. Dhumal said that initially only the schedule of the first 15 days will be released. The list of remaining matches will be decided after the announcement of general election dates.

The date of Lok Sabha elections is expected to be announced early next month. "We plan to start the tournament from March 22. We are working closely with government agencies and will release the preliminary schedule first," Dhumal said. The entire tournament will be held in India only.

India will play its first World Cup in Ireland on June 5 and the ICC tournament begins on June 1, with the United States and Canada playing each other. Last year the first match of IPL was played between the teams. In such a situation, this year the first match of IPL 2023 will be played between Chennai Super Kings and rival Gujarat Titans.
